Hair cut

Casey got short hair yesterday, and a little bit of bangs to even out the bangs she cut for herself a few months ago. (She did a pretty good job of cutting them the right length and then immediately came out of the bathroom and told on herself.) It looks REALLY cute. I'll put up a better picture soon. She got to watch the movie Hop while the woman cut her hair.

Yesterday I took the day off and we went for a walk, played on the playground with her old daycare buddies, went to lunch where we sat at the counter and read a Scooby Doo magazine, got a haircut, went to the park with our neighbors (Arjan taught her how to ride a scooter), and then to ice skating lessons! I don't know how we fit it all in. We were both pretty tired by the end. Today Eric is staying home with her for her last day of spring break. She is now a big fan of spring break, and doesn't even remember crying two years ago when she found out spring break meant there would be no preschool all week.

Another State, Another Boy...

[Eric posting] It just turned out that my friend Howard was also in NC this week with his son Jackson. Howard was drivng back from the beach and my parents house ended up being a good place to break up the drive, so we got see Howard, Jackson, and Howard's parents. Casey gladly shared "her" toys with Jackson. 2-year-old Jackson loved the cars. Jackson is 3.5 years younger, but almost as big as Casey...

Spring Break in NC!

[Eric posting] Casey and I flew to NC to go to "Grandparent Camp" while Jamie went to a work conference. In spite of getting up very early on Saturday, we all almot missed our flight. (As it turned out, only Mommy did). Casey and I arrived in NC on Saturday evening, and spent Sunday with the cousins. It was a blast. Amy even made fresh strawberry-ruhbarb pie which was a real unexpected treat! Today I am working in NC while Casey get's lots of Grandparent time.

Spring break is coming!

Baby's first kindergarten recital

Last row in the middle. Man is that kid cute. I haven't talked to her yet but I imagine she was very happy to be in the last row. She does not like it when she "has" to sit in the front because she's short. The kids stood up for a few of the songs and we could barely see her little head peeping out. But once in a while she would stand on something and we could see her. Unfortunately I forgot to bring my paparazzi lens.

She did great. Our girl loves to sing. Eric and I went out for a quick lunch after and then back to work. I'm going to go get her early today though.

Play of the day

Eric watches on as the kids join forces to get the last Easter egg (which only Eric could have hidden).

Egg hunting

Went over to hunt for eggs with Ashley, Ellie, Lola, and Luke. Casey was very worried that she wouldn't find any eggs, but considering the fact that we hid 135 eggs for 5 kids, I was pretty sure she'd find some. Casey ended up with a lot of candy and a lot of money. Again this year, the big boys helped the kids find eggs knowing that the little girls would help them find eggs in round 2.

Casey is loving her dozen or so new pets. The ants had dinner with us again tonight. I think some of the ants are "sleeping". I really never ever thought I'd feel sorry for ants, especially ants in the house.

Ant hunting

Right now Eric and Casey are out hunting for ants. On Thursday after school we went to the doctor to get the wax cleaned out of Casey's ears. Our doctor has never really seen past the wax in her ears and it's too hard to scrape out. This doctor had the nurses put in the hydrogen peroxide (Casey laughed) and then squirt in water while I held Casey and the cup under her ear for the water and pieces of wax coming out. Believe me there was no laughing at this part. They could hear her screaming and crying at the front desk. During the crying, bribes were made. Toys, lollipops, and Jamba Juice were promised. Pants were wet, both of ours. From the water, not from pee. For a second I wasn't sure though.

We went straight to the toy store where she considered a tiny kitchen and a family of panda bears. I said, "Are you really going to play with it?" "No." She put it down. She considered Shrinky Dinks and Play Doh cookie cutters (I told her she could get both if that's what she wanted), and I asked the same question and got the same response. Then she looked at a lamb stuffed animal (like we need more stuffed animals) and it was $72!!! I don't know what kind of lamb that was but I told her that's out of our price range. Then we looked at a few more things, and she decided on an ant farm. I asked if she was sure, and she said "YES!" Eric is very excited because he never had an ant farm, and this one has special blue NASA "dirt" that the ants can eat. Two ants have been captured so far. Where are all the ants when you need them?

Then we went to the ice skating rink for an hour of skating and then her lesson. She did really well and is loving ice skating. I can't wait til she learns how to stop so she can stop purposely wiping out when she doesn't want to run into someone or something.

This morning we did our favorite 5k. I was almost 5 minutes slower than last year. I guess not running can really slow you down. Casey did the kids' run, two laps around a field. The starting line was packed. They started the race and there was a minor pile up. I watched and saw a little girl with bright blue pants jump out of the bottom and keep running. It was my baby! I felt so bad but she had the eye of the tiger and kept running. As soon as she finished, we grabbed her medal and jumped in the car and went to tap.

Then we went to tap and Eric noticed the list of rules. Rule #2: No laughing and no making other people laugh. It's not a joke. I'm sure she's breaking the rules nonstop. The kids got to try on their fancy new ($80!) costumes for the recital. Plus $3 frilly socks. They took their measurements months ago, and I was worried she'd grow and the outfit would be too small. But it's very wide! I'm not sure what they did with the measurements. We're supposed to put as much makeup on as we can get on them. Ugh. Dance mom. I feel sick. We'll see what happens. She may be the "washed out" one at the recital.

Girls' night out

Eric's out of town so Nanette and Maya took us to Mongolian BBQ. We loved it! Casey had a second school photo taken yesterday, so of course I ordered it. I'm not sure why they do two in one year. They make you order them before you get to see them, so I'm hoping for the best.
